Listening Movement
SHOW WITH INTERNATIONAL SIGN
Movimento de Escuta (Listening Movement) is a dance and deaf art performance. The performers share their daily experiences and explore the lack of communication.
What is life like in our city today?
Are we aware of the lack of listening?
“Discordar e Concordar, Oxumaré, Entrar no Mundo, Respeito, Não Culpa a Favela, Abraço e Amo, amo, amo...” (in English: Disagreeing and Agreeing, Oxumaré, Entering the World, Respect, Don’t Blame the Favela, Embrace/Hug, and I Love, Love, Love...) are some of the scenes created for the performance, which is entirely danced and spoken in LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language). The dance blends elements from the experience of the group formed by the SOM Dance Company with funk choreographed by Celly I.D.D., a leading female figure contributing to the development of the Passinho Foda movement.
Regarding Deaf Art, I highlight here: SLAM, Vernacular Visuals, and Deaf Poetry. The creation, with a few partners, of the SOM Project in 2018 demonstrated that there is an infinite field of work through sign language and the poetic images that the expression of this language can evoke. Throughout this rehearsal process, the dancers brought these tools to the table, and together we explored new possibilities. Movimento de Escuta is a work in progress, shaped by many hands and hearts. May Oxumaré be with us !
With : Alef Felipe, Lucas Guilherme, Luiz Augusto, Thayssa Araújo & Thaís Souza
Directing : Clara Kutner & Aline Carrocino
Duration : 45 min
Production : Arte Nunca Dorme Produções Artísticas Ltda
